Atlanta,
Georgia - The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia
(MOCA GA) announces its upcoming
exhibition, CLAY. This comprehensive exhibition of major ceramic
masters will be shown at the museum
from April 12 through June 15, 2003. Opening day is April 12
from noon – 5. The event is free and open to
the public.
The show is curated by Rick Berman, an outstanding artist, juror,
teacher, lecturer, and author. Berman is an
Atlantan and one of the country’s foremost authorities
on modern ceramic masters.
CLAY will take an historical look at the increased
use in the 1960s and 1970s of clay as a medium for fine
art
objects. The exhibit focuses on that moment in time when our
local artists addressed the same issues as the
cutting-edge artists from across the country that were experimenting
and re-defining the medium of clay. The
exhibition consists of work by over 50 artists, including Georgia
artists Andy Nasisse, Ron Meyers, Susan
Loftin, and Diane Kempler, and will place these artists in juxtaposition
to clay artists nationally and
internationally. Work ranging from the traditional vessels of
Japan and the United States to the cutting edge
sculpture of Voulkos, Jun Kaneko, Michael Lucero, and Rudy Autio
will be exhibited.
The mission of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia is to
collect and archive significant works of
the artists living in Georgia. MOCA GA seeks to make contemporary
visual art more accessible by
connecting local, living artists with diverse audiences in order
to promote the understanding and appreciation
of the visual arts in our state. The museum’s permanent
collection contains more than 260 works of art by
115 artists who were born or spent a significant portion of their
careers working in Georgia. The collection
encompasses a wide range of media, including paintings, prints,
drawings, sculptures, installation art and
photographs.
MOCA GA is located at 1447 Peachtree Street, two blocks north
of the High Museum of Art in Midtown
Atlanta. Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am until
5 pm. Admission is free. For more
information, contact Amy Parry, 404/881-1109, info@mocaga.org.
