Thomasine Bradford

b. February 1939 in Tryon, North Carolina; d. 2001

Thomasine Bradford was an Atlanta-based sculptor, drawer, painter and art historian. A North Carolina native, the artist earned two MFAs from Georgia State University and a PhD in art history from State University of New York at Stony Brook. A staunch feminist, much of Bradford’s work comments on the role of women in society, history, and in religion. She was a member of the Girl Vigilantes, a group modeled after the New York Guerilla Girls, and she helped stage public performances and artful protests. Bradford taught and lectured widely throughout Atlanta including at Georgia State University. Solo exhibitions were at the TULA Foundation Gallery and Underlying Gallery in Atlanta, GA. Bradford died at the age of 62.
