Shelia Turner

Shelia Turner is a Photographer and Social Documentarian.  Her photographs have been exhibited at Goethe-Institut Accra, Ghana, West Africa; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Atlanta, Georgia; Bryn Mawr University, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania; University of Delaware, Wilmington, Delaware; Spelman College, Atlanta, Georgia; Agnes Scott College, Decatur, Georgia; Clemson University, Clemson, South Carolina and the YWCA Berkeley, California. Ms. Turner’s photographs are included in the public collections of the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, GA, the Paul R. Jones Collection of the University of Delaware, Wilmington, DE, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, Atlanta, GA, the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Atlanta, GA, in addition to many corporate and private collections. Her photographs are on permanent exhibition at the Federal Reserve Bank, Atlanta, Georgia and the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Atlanta, Georgia and the University of California Santa Cruz, Social Sciences 2, Dean’s Gallery, Santa Cruz, CA. In 2008 Ms. Turner received her M.A .in Social Documentation from the University of California Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz, CA.  Ms. Turner is a 2007 California Employment and Research Fund Fellow, a recipient of the 2006 Profiles of Prominence Award presented by the National Women of Achievement, Inc.  As well as, a 2005 Hambidge Center for the Creative Art --Rabun Gap, GA,--photography Fellow and a 2003 Artist in Residence of the Atlanta History Center, Atlanta, GA. As an educator and visual activist she has taught and/or lectured at the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, GA; Watkins School of Art Design and Film, Nashville, TN; the University of California Santa Cruz, CA; Emory University, Atlanta, GA; Agnes Scott College, Decatur, GA and Salem College, Winston-Salem, NC.
