About Ruth & this Retrospective
This very first museum retrospective for the Atlanta’s beloved, Ruth Laxson, Hip Young Owl featured more than 125 works included paintings, drawings, sculptures, and original artist books, mail art and more – including works from several public and private collections and early works that had never before been shown. Curated by Marcia Wood, a prominent Atlanta gallery owner and Jo Anne Paschall, former Director of Nexus Press, this exhibition surveyed the breadth and depth of this 88 year old artist’s work and celebrated the legacy of a true master throughout a long career. MOCA GA raised special funding to produce a full color catalogue to document the exhibition, which includes essays by Laurie Whitehall Chong, Special Collections Librarian and Curator of Artists' Books at the Fleet Library at Rhode Island School of Design, and Margaret Shufeldt, retired Curator of Works on Paper at the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University.
