| Lucy Currie was born in 1956 in Atlanta, Georgia. She received her BFA from the University of Georgia and her MFA from the University of California. She had additional study at such institutions as Georgia State University, The Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida, The Atlanta College of Art and Vanderbilt University and has studied with such artists as Ben Smith, Jim Herbert, Frank Stella, Ben Shute and Katherine Mitchell. She has been awarded numerous grants and scholarships such as the Andy Warhol Scholarship and Travel Award, the Italian Government Scholarship and a full fellowship from the Glassell School of Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas. Currie’s seemingly simplistic paintings have been shown in California, Maine, Texas, Cortona Italy, Pennsylvania, Florida and extensively in Georgia, and she has been featured in The New York Times, New Art Magazine. In addition to being in several private collections, Currie’s work is included in MOCA GA’s permanent collection, and she recently exhibited alongside Benjamin Jones at the Swan Coach House Gallery. |
