Don Cooper b. February 1944 in Belton, Texas |

Don Cooper was born in Texas, but grew up in Georgia and has primarily lived in Atlanta since 1976. His meditative, ritualistic work has been inspired by travels in the United States, Britain, Italy, Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, Vietnam, Thailand, India and China. Cooper has been awarded fellowships from the Fulbright Program, SECCA 7, the Southern Arts Federation, CGR Advisors and Awards in the Visual Arts. To date, Cooper’s work has been in 28 solo exhibitions more than 70 regional and international group exhibitions. The artist was one of three winners of the inaugural 2007/2008 MOCA GA Working Artist Project Awards, which included a major solo exhibition entitled This Moment as It Is: A Connection to the Whole. Cooper was featured as one of twenty-seven artists in the recent Georgia Council for the Arts publication: “Georgia Masterpieces: Selected Works from Georgia Museums” and the MOCA GA exhibition it inspired, Twenty Georgia Masters. He is the 2009 recipient of the Judith Alexander Artadia Award. |
