Danielle Roney

b. 1968, Syracuse, New York

Danielle Roney is an installation artist examining modernization and pluralistic societies through sculpture, digital media and public intervention. After studying at the University of Georgia, she has held studios in Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Beijing, China. Her work with technology includes video, ultrasonic sound emitters, and development of public realm simulcasting events. Danielle has presented her Global Portals project to TEDGlobal 2005 in Oxford, England and the Public Art Network National Conference in Austin. After showing in the Beijing Off-Biennale 2005 exhibition, Convergence, curated by Feng Boyi, she opened the new 944 Studio. Global Portals premiered an intercontinental simulcast between Atlanta, GA, and Durban, South Africa in the summer of 2007 during the National Black Arts Festival; with subsequent interventions to Beijing throughout the Fall. Roney was the 2007/2008 Working Artist Project winner, which included her resulting solo exhibition Genesis Trial: Johannesburg, a continuation of the Genesis Trial series, which began in China. She was awarded an Arts Encouragement Award from the Charles Loridans Foundation and was featured in the top 50 emerging international artists 2006 by Contemporary Magazine, London.
